The story opens on the roof of a school library, where a nineteen-year-old student named yuan wu has been injured in a car accident three years earlier. He is now a sophomore at the school, and he is standing on the top of the library, watching a live stream of a meteor shower that has been followed by a man named shanshi. He asks the man if the meteor shower is too strong and reckless, and the man replies that it is too weak. The student replies that his life has undergone a dramatic change in the past three years, and that he will have to "accept it all" if he wants to live. He wants to ask the man to help his senior sister in making the effects of a monster's encounter, but the man refuses, saying that he is not in a position to teach him a lesson. He then launches into a tirade against the man, calling him a "contemptuous face" and accusing him of wishing for death. He tells the man that he has heard that there is a serial killer, but that he should not rush off to the dormitory because the suppers have been delivered to his hands. He calls the police, and smashes the window if he cannot open it
