About This Chapter
In this chapter, we learn that a cat's best way to attract another cat is to show that it is "mighty, brave, and handsome" . In other words, it's a good thing that the cat is handsome and strong, because if another cat tries to catch it, the cat will fight back. The cat, however, doesn't want to be caught, so he waits outside. The narrator tells us that he invited the cat inside, but the cat refused to come inside because it was too hot outside. He tells the narrator that the moon is beautiful, and that he's loved looking at it since he was a child. He says that he wanted to confess his feelings long ago, but he kept his feelings to himself because he was afraid of how awkward it would be. But now, he says, he has no regrets. He's been friends with the narrator for 10 years, and they've always been there for each other. They apologize for not calling him inside, and the narrator says that the cafe has to close early because of an urgent situation. He goes upstairs to call for coffee, and he finds the cat on the floor beside him with a cup of coffee in his hand. He thinks the cat must have had a fever, because his forehead is burning. He calls for an ambulance, but they can't get him to the hospital because the cafe is closed early. He asks the narrator if they're hiding
