In this chapter, we learn that the Agartes have been living in space for thousands of years, and that they have been unable to produce enough offspring to populate the world. They have chosen to live in the prairie because of its beauty and wealth, but they will soon return to the other worlds they have inhabited in the past. Byamba has allowed them to live according to the customs of their distant future.
