In the meantime, Mikhael's chief wants the two of them to keep watch over the swords while he settles the accounts with Dolmon. Mikhalil is worried that the search for the swords has made him more dangerous, and he worries that Eluriana is beginning to understand his feelings for her husband. He tells Mihal that he loves him like his own daughter, and that he has been waiting for him for a long while. Mihal says that the city was once beautiful, and Mihal thinks that something is luring the enemy into the city. He smashes the door, and the enemy approaches. He says that he is going to slaughter Mihal. Mihalil tells him that he was nothing more than an arrogant fool, who believed that Eliana loved him more than anyone else. He compares Mihal to a "filthy, arrogant fool" and says that Mihal is the strongest man he has ever known. He also says that if Mihal had not hesitated to kill him, Mihal would have been dead. He asks Mihal if he can feel the "draft" of Mihal's body, which is frozen
