About This Chapter
This chapter opens with a soliloquy by the general, who tells yama and talone that they will settle their own personal accounts. The general says that he will kill yama if she gives him her sword. He says that if she does not, he will allow her to leave. yama tells the general that he has found his brother again and that he looks much like him. He promises to protect him and promises to get up and go to his mother. He tells his mother that they are going to separate ways now. He asks how a devil like Orland could have discovered another of the swords, and she tells him that there is a foot bridge that leads down to the terraces. She says that she thinks they will come to help them, but that they have nothing left to give them in return. Tamura tells her that he needs all four of her swords to save his daughter's life. She was turned to the glass sword because of the damned sword, and surian says he knows about it. He adds that he doubts that her daughter will ever be the same as before, but Tamura says that they love life and fight well. He kills his own father as night falls, and the voice of the swamp hen echoes over the grotto where he killed his father. The blacksmith asks his mother what is on her mind, and her answer is that she wants to protect Tamura and take care of her little brother.
