About This Chapter
The chapter opens with a flashback to the previous chapter, in which the narrator explains that the narrator's father has been abusing his son, and that the family is gathering for a dinner. The narrator tells the audience that his father is a sensitive man and that he might have said something, but he does not have to worry about what his son has said. He reassures the narrator that he did nothing wrong and that his brother will be with him all the time. He tells the narrator to rub his younger brother in front of his father and to be careful. He says that he wanted to protect his brother but he could not go against his father, so he became a student and became the class president at the school. The winter passes by and the school year ends. He asks the narrator why the school is so quiet and why it has been so quiet for so long. He explains that he and his brother are close with their classmates and that no one else wants to be close with them. He then tells the story of how his father keeps beating his son and how the pain of the beating has become something that only his father can bear. An acquaintance of his found a restaurant and invited them to a dinner, and the narrator says that the meal will make his brother feel better. He adds that he is sorry that he couldnt help his brother, but that going to the restaurant might make him feel a bit better. She says that her father is recognized as a doctor in a large hospital and that they will be able to eat at the restaurant. She suggests that they go there and have a good time. The chapter ends with a discussion between the narrator and her brother about
