This chapter opens with a conversation between Linyan and his grandmother. Linyan tells his grandmother that he has seen a picture of a beautiful woman and that he does not want to marry her. His grandmother tells him that he should obey his mother and not to get worked up, otherwise his high blood pressure will shoot up again. She tells Linyan that she does not need anything else from him except to marry the beautiful woman. She also tells him to stop acting like he is planning on infuriating her. She says that he can stop acting if he wants to. He tells her that his father has left, and he has forgotten to keep his promise to her. He says that the teacher mentioned coconut water as an ingredient to prepare mango sago, but Linyan has forgotten that coconut water is 20ml. He asks her why she cant get the coconut water taste right, and she says that she has never heard of coconut water before. She then says that her teacher will be impressed by her skills this time, and that she should not stoop to her level, as she is pleased with herself. She asks her grandmother to come with her and sign a document.
