In this chapter, we learn that the vampire's guards roughed up Sebastian, and that he is now an apparition. He tells Sebastian that the tunnel that was supposed to link the elders of the asylum with the warrens was actually a trap. He also tells him that the fairy has cast a spell preventing Sebastian and the vampire from entering the tunnel. Sebastian tells the fairy that he will have to help the vampire escape, and the elf tells him to slip through the door. Sebastian says goodbye to his brother, who is now a self-centered egotistical little man.
