In this chapter's opening soliloquy, the elf bemoans the fact that the earth is too weak to hold back the invasion of the town by the goblins. He blames the school for sending his goblins to attack the town, but the school's headmaster refuses to believe him. He tells the schoolmaster that he sent the elf to the school to keep him safe until the battle was over. The schoolmaster, however, believes that the elf's return is an organized resistance to the invasion, and he sends the elf away to join the battle
