This chapter opens with the narrator's declaration that he is "home" and smells "divine" . He tells us that he smells like "secret passages all over" and wonders where his clothes and school supplies are. He asks his aunt to bring him some school supplies since his things haven't arrived from California. He then asks his kitten if she is with him. She tells him that she bought him school supplies and that he should be able to use them soon. She then asks him why he doesn't like her, and he tells her that he just couldn't find a room in the school and that tomorrow is the "fall icebreaker dance" and the "student clubs fair" where he can meet other students. He goes on to say that he wants to introduce himself to his "prince" and asks if he can pay him a visit. He says that "common he belongs" and that "a temporary insanity" will pass. The narrator then tells his kitten that he's not interested in him and that his problem is that he belongs to "royalty" and not to his cousin. The kitten says that he would like to call his cousin but that he can't because "common" belongs to him. He also tells the kitten that "i'm home" like "anyone cares" and says that the coolest kid in school asked him if he would call him "prince balthazar s sabinov" and he says that it's "just nice to talk" to someone and that the look on his face when he talked to him was " priceless !"
