This chapter opens with a conversation between Hiroshi and his assistant, Chima. Hiroshi tells Chima that he has just received a new box of handmade goods from Torano, and that he is very excited about it. Chima, however, is not so excited about the box of goods; he thinks that Torano is a very good artist, but that he does not like Torano's products because they are "old enemies a sheep, an ele-phant, a giraffe, and a chopstick, right ! . . that is right !" Hiroshi says that he would like to work with Torano one day, but he is afraid that he will not be able to do so for now.
