The chapter opens with a conversation between the Governess and the young man. The Governess tells him that she has come to see him because she wants to ask him a question. She wants to know what he is embarrassed about. She asks him to tell her an example of how he has not kept his identity a secret in his daily life. For example, she tells him how she accidentally spilled hot water at a restaurant and he blocked it for her. She then asks him how he came to see her with a bandage on his arm the next day. He tells her that it was a "scald" and she asks him if it was because he didn't want to work on the project anymore. He says that he had forgotten to bring the project that worked with him very much. He also wants her to give him a gift the next time they meet. He asks her if she would like to transfer money directly to her bank account. She says that she does not want to do that, but she also wants to make sure that the money is safe. She also asks him why he decided to check on her when they were out for dinner. She explains that she did not expect her clothes to betray her, and that she even tidied her hairstyle to make it look like she was wearing makeup. She goes on to say that she also has a question for him. Her mother married the son of another member of the family to prevent bankruptcy. She got pregnant with her shortly afterwards. Her father thought she was a boy and only found out after she was saved. She has never received the love and care from her family since then.
