The chapter opens with a description of demons. They are everywhere, but no one can see them. The narrator tells us that he lost his way in the forest and was attacked by a demon. The demon released him and gave him a seven-leaf crystal ginseng. He asks the demon to come back to the ghost forest, but the demon tells him to go away. He tells the narrator that he has grown a lot since the first time he saw the demon, and thanks her for giving him such a wonderful gift. He says that he would not have been able to do what he has done if the demon had not been kind to him. When the demon returns, the narrator tells him that she is weak in her energy and that he must drink the ginseng to see her.
