In this chapter, we are introduced to a new character, who is introduced as "Chaston." He is a young man who has just returned from a mission in the Middle East. He has come from a country in which he was forced to serve in the Ottoman Empire, and he is now returning to his homeland in the United States, where he has been living with his family for the past few years. He is also a member of the Brotherhood, which is a political organization dedicated to the overthrow of the government of the Islamic Republic of the Holy Land. The Brotherhood's goal is to overthrow the current government in Egypt and to establish an Islamic state in Palestine.
