In this chapter, we learn that the Duke of Wungkaew, the princess of the kingdom, has bestowed upon him a new caretaker. The caretaker, a man named navin, has come from Krung thep, a kingdom in the northeast of China. He tells us that the king of the neighboring kingdom, the kingdom of Wiengkaew , had been fond of the princess when she was a child. He says that the kingdom is a small, free kingdom, but that one day, it will be invaded by a foreign power. The king of Wiegkaew is in a terrible condition, and navin is the only person who knows how to treat him. He suggests that they use a saline solution to clean the wound, and then they should use alcohol to revive the king.
