In this chapter, we are introduced to a number of characters who have been introduced in the previous chapters. The first of these characters is Mariana, who has just returned from a trip to Europe. She is now married and has two children. She has been separated from her husband for a long time, but she is still very much in love with him. Mariana tells us that she still loves him, but that their relationship has ended.
