The next morning, the two young people discuss their feelings for each other. The narrator says that he is glad that nothing is going on between the two of them. He says that his feelings for mayo came from a "negative place" . He asks the young people if they are nervous about going to the house of Aoi. The young people say that they are, and the narrator tells them that he has seen Aoi like this "a million times . . he says that the whole gang is here , and he wonders why they do not ask their own self if they want to be friends. He tells the young men that he used to live next door to Aoi's house, and that he looks forward to school because of his friend. The two young men play cards, and Aoi asks the narrator to come out and talk to him about his problems. He explains that he wants to help Aoi, but he is too self-centered to listen to the problems of others. He gives the young man a menu of food and asks him to try it out.
