The demon king tells the boy that he and the boy's father had an encounter thousands of years before. He tells him that the demon king has instituted a custom of offering human babies to the demons in exchange for their protection. The boy is horrified at the idea of being eaten by demons, but the king assures him that this is the safest way to keep humankind safe. He then proceeds to explain that the custom of sacrificing one thousand human babies is a way of keeping mankind safe, and that sooner or later mankind will be totally destroyed.
