The scene opens with a flashback to a conversation between a young man and a young woman. The young woman tells the young man that she is in love with him and that she wants to marry him. The man, gladiol, tells her that she should marry him because he is the most beautiful man in the world and she should be flattered by this. He then gives her a pen and tells her to use it whenever she needs it.
