In this chapter, we are introduced to a young man named "sugar daddy" . He is the owner of a pastry shop across the street from Miss Jessel's shop. He has just returned from a shopping trip and has just been involved in a minor scuffle with a customer. He asks the customer if he knows his name, and the customer answers that he does, but he does not know the name of the person fighting with him. The young man is confused and does not understand what is going on. He does, however, realize that the fight is not between him and the pastry shop owner, but between two other customers. He realizes that the two customers are fighting over him, and he is amazed that they do not know each other.
