About This Chapter
It's lunchtime at the shop, and the boss asks the waitress if the woman they're talking to is suspicious of him. The waitress says she's not sure, but she does wonder if they can make her an informant for the case. The boss asks her to clean up the table, and she says she was too happy to lose track of time, so maybe she'll have to clean it again. She's a little worried about the bird, though, because she thinks it's suspicious of her boss. She wonders why he always drinks coffee there, and wonders if he'd treat her to a real meal instead of the coffee-induced "caffeine effect on her heart." The boss says he's sorry to keep her waiting, but he doesn't have a plan for the evening. He asks her if she'd like for dinner. She says she hasn't decided what she would like to eat herself, but the chef tells her to ask the question: "up to you" . This is a woman's move, the boss says, and it might cause her to question her own sanity. She asks him to tell her what to eat, and he says it depends on her answer, but it might be dangerous if he says he wants a steak.
