About This Chapter
In this chapter, Bardolph finds the body of a dead man lying on the ground. Bardolph is surprised to find that the dead man has a chest full of treasure. He asks Bardolph what he's doing there, and Bardolph tells him that he came after Bardolph, jumped into the sea, and swam back to the ship. When they got to the island, he swam all the way back to Bardolph's ship. He tells Bardolph that he has been reunited with his father, who has been captured and sold to Jones. He's going to kill Jones, he says, if Bardolph doesn't kill him. He says that he intends to free his father if he is dead, who will watch after him? Bardolph says that they're doing God's work, and that if they were "decent" men, they wouldn't do this. They're just doing their job. They don't need to worry about the treasure, they'll just carry it on land.
