Jane is shocked to learn that her son wants to break off the engagement with her. She cannot believe that he would do such a thing to her daughter, who has been in a relationship with him for years. She is ashamed of herself for her part in the whole thing. She says that she knows that she is in love with another man's boyfriend, but her parents will not accept her relationship with her son.
