In this chapter, the young narrator and his friend, Minhas, are walking together on the street. Minhas is nervous because he is walking with a woman whom he does not like. He asks her if she would like to protect him from the rain, and she replies that she would, if he were wearing a short sleeve and she was wearing a long sleeve. She also says that he could catch a cold if he got splashed on. The young narrator, however, does not believe that such situations could happen between men. He says that it is not nice to take a walk in the rain on rainy days, and that he would rather not get wet. He tells Minhas that he will not get sick from it, and he and Minhas walk across the street to meet up with each other again. He notices that the young man who tried to hit on Minhas was very short, and his face was "just average." He asks if he is Minhas's "hoobae," and he replies that he is the same age as Minhas. He then asks why he is being so wary of him, since he is cute and he did it on purpose.
