At public school, a student named banba karen is trying to learn the basic waltz routine from a teacher named tamamura fujita. The teacher, however, has already started the amateur dance semifinals and the student is worried that he is not talented enough to compete with the other students. He asks her to take a picture of him with her and she agrees to do so. She tells him that the first dance of the tournament is the waltz and that he should try to beat him the next time he dances with her. The student tells her that he has made great progress in the past two weeks and that hyodo is worse than before. He has cut his neck and cut his posture. He is too tall for the students and they have to practice hand-to-hand with him. He curls up so small that the student notices that he squeezes her leg motion. He says that this means that she is "practicing" by watching herself in a mirror. He wonders why she is doing this for hyodo and she says that she does not know what he is thinking. She says that the best thing to do is always to dance with a partner and that there is no one like him. She adds that she will talk to him later.
