This chapter opens with a description of the family's dining room, which is full of wine bottles. The narrator tells us that he and his sister will be dining in the dining room because the younger sister has a younger brother. The younger brother is usually the cook for the family, so the meal will have to be served in the kitchen. He thanks the family for their hospitality, and then he goes to find some of his father's clothes. He tells the family that his knee hurts, but that his dad's clothing fit him well. He then goes on to say that he will be sleeping in the bedroom with the family.
