In this chapter, we are introduced to the protagonist, a young man who is trying to figure out what to do with his life after graduating from college. He feels that he is destined to fail in his attempts to pick up women, but he is determined to prove himself worthy of the "good guy" card. He decides to test the "shared boyfriend" system, which allows him to choose a random host and assign him a random number of women to match with. The protagonist decides that he wants to be a "rebound" of women, not a "seeker." He wants to "plead in front of" women, rather than "serve all the women."
