The chapter opens with Hiroshi's explanation of what has happened to him. He is busy cleaning up his house when he sees the black feathers on the ground. He thinks it is a fallen angel, a crow, or a boy running away from home. He realizes that it must have been his mis--a half-Yokai--born between a human and a tengu. He tells Hiroshi that his father is the tenthgu and his mother the human. He says that he wants to live as a human, not as a monster.
