In this chapter, Roxane tries to convince Roxane that she is in love with her childhood friend, the painter. She tells him that she has sprained her ankle and that she will not be able to paint with him anymore. Roxane tells her that she and her friend have fallen in love and that he is throwing away all of the sketches he has made of her and the model he has created for her. He says that he and his friend are going to start painting together and that Roxane is going to paint him as he likes. He promises that he will be his rival in the art world. He tells his friend that he has always loved him even if he has not had his eyes on him.
