The next morning, the prince asks the princess to give him some of her father's pearls as a gift. The princess tells him that the empress is unhappy that the fourth prince will marry her daughter, and that in the future, her daughter will have more suitors for her hand in marriage. The prince tells the princess that the southwest king has requested that the tribute be reduced this year because of a drought, and the princess says that she will discuss the matter later.
