About This Chapter
The chapter opens with a flashback to the early days of the Underground Railroad. The narrator tells us that he was a member of the underground railroad and that his name was "Sasa" . The Underground Railroad's founder was a man named Akim Athabadze, who was the father of a number of prominent Underground Railroad leaders, including the Underground's current leader, Jonas Savile. Savile's father was a notorious murderer who was known for his brutality towards women and children. He was also known for being a bigot, a violent man, and a misogynist. He had a son who was named "Bodas" , which means "cursed" in Latin. The chapter ends with the narrator telling us that his real name is Sasa, and that he has spent the last few years trying to erase his father's name from his body. He's also been trying to get rid of his teacher, Akim, who's known as "the most dangerous man that ever lived" because of his violent ways. He says that he's going to kill Akim and take revenge on his father.
