In this chapter, the little rascals of the village are shown the secret of the bone-runes. They are amazed to learn that they can lift a cauldron much larger than their own size. They also learn that the village hunting party has returned, and that they have been out hunting for a while. They have found many dead and injured animals, including a fierce dragon-horned elephant trampled to death. They find footprints on the ground, which they interpret as an ancient relic.
