The narrator tells us that he bought off Chen Xuan because she was a fan of him at first, but now that he's gotten a job in Beijing, he'll be spending more time with her. He's going to start looking for a place to live in the next day or so. He tells us about the painting he and Chen bought together, and how she taught him how to paint. He also shows us the journals he wrote about their love life, which he left with her when they broke up.
