In this chapter, the narrator tells the story of the first time he met Ling and Ren. He tells Ren that he was an awkward kid back then, and Ren and Ling were just goofing around. The narrator says he was too self-conscious to say hi to Ren, but when he saw how real they were with each other, he laughed out loud. Ren's dad came home from school and told him that Ling was on her way home. Ren was surprised to learn that she was the daughter of the owner of the coffee shop. Ren tells the narrator that he had inspired her to be more confident in her studies. Ren says he's sad that she's leaving, but he wants to write her a note on her wall of wishes. He remembers the last time he was here, when Ren wrote a poem about how he loved her all the time. He says he hopes that his next boyfriend will cook the most beautiful food on earth, and that he just wants to be happy. He asks Ren to call an ambulance if he has a calf injury.
