In this chapter, we are introduced to a number of characters who are introduced for the first time in the novel. The first of these characters is Nemo, who explains to Nemo that he has come to ask him for a favor. Nemo explains that he is late for work because he wants to see his daughter at school the next day. He tells Nemo that the manager at the school will be mad at him for not showing up on time. Nemo tells him that he can't leave Nemo at home because he has to get to work on time, but he promises that he will see her at school on the following day
