The chapter opens with a flashback to a conversation between the protagonist and his ex-wife. The protagonist tells the story of how he fell in love with a woman named Reika, and how he broke off his relationship with her three years later. He now works as a saleswoman in the Tohoku branch of the same company that Reika worked for. He has been promoted to the position of chief manager, and he tells the protagonist that he will be waiting for him at the entrance of the office on February 9. Reika's name is mio, and she is the chief man at the branch where the protagonist works. He tells her that he has heard that she has gotten married, and that she left behind some things in her hometown of kurihara. He asks her what she is doing, and when she says that she is not sure, he tells her to try and chase after her.
