The chapter opens with a discussion of sexual liberation, or "to each of their own forms of love" . In this chapter, we are introduced to the characters of Dr. Rivers and Dr. Enos, two young men who have just begun their sexual adventures. The first of the two men, called "the boss," asks the other to meet him in the small meeting room at work. The second of the men, named "the twitch" , asks the first man why he dressed up in such a way, and the first responds by saying that he is now his lover. The two men discuss the possibility of having sex again, and they decide that they will have sex on the following night. The boss, however, refuses to meet them, saying that they are at work, so they cannot have sex. The men discuss their plans for the evening, and Enos says that he will go home and ask the woman why she chose him, and she will tell him later in the evening. The next morning, the men receive a message from "the taichi woman," asking if they can meet up for dinner the following evening. They decide to go out, but Enos asks if they are going out with "the two of you," and she replies that she is going out alone with "reira." The second man asks if he can join the two of them for dinner, but she says that she would not be inconsolable if she joined them. The third man asks her if she has had enough to drink. She says that it is hard to take her eyes off of the woman, because she is able to do so.
