It turns out that Juliet is actually a "devil sent" to drain the "last drop of blood" out of him. He's so bummed that he can't even afford to buy her some clothes. He tells his father that he should call him "brother" instead of "father" because he's too old to be his own father. He says that he'll take Juliet to the mall and then take her away to the children's section of the store so they can buy some more clothes.
