The narrator is surprised to see that the artist is trying to learn how to be an artist. He thinks that he is getting better at drawing, but he is still not sure how to do it. He tries a new pencil, which he calls a "jumba pencil," and is amazed at how well it works. He tells the artist that he will cheer him on from the sidelines.
