The chapter opens with a flashback to the events of the previous chapter, in which R2-D2 and the rest of the galaxy's populace are still in the midst of their rebellion against the Empire. The chapter's epigraph is a quote from a famous line from the play The Taming of the Shrew: "I'm not ashamed of my past; I'm ashamed of what I've done." The scene shifts to the present, where the protagonist is recalling the events that have occurred in his life. The protagonist recalls that he was once a pureblood, a member of the Ohgeji clan, and that he fought in the battle of the "centipedes." The protagonist wonders if his past has anything to do with his present, and he wonders if there are other tribes with more than one tribe. He wonders whether there are any weapons that can be used against a single person, and if there is any way to use them against a group of three or more people. He compares the lightning punch he used to use to beat the "remarkably berserk" forces of the centipeds to the poison gas he used in the Battle of the Sands of Time. If he can use the weapons he has, he thinks, he might be able to defeat them. He decides to go out and find some droids and bring them back to his father, who is in charge of the rebellion. He tells the protagonist that he will introduce him to the father when they arrive at the village, and the protagonist agrees to do so.
