Little Wolf and her brothers love rough and tumble, but their mother is content to watch her younger son. Five days have passed since the last meal, and the family has not been able to find food. When the hunting pack returns, Little Wolf tells her brother to eat his share of deer, but he is too upset to talk to her. The grandfather tells his grandson about the legend of two wolves, one that is ignorant and one that follows a path of knowledge. The grandson thinks about which wolf is going to win, and Little Wolf is confused by the story.
