"Too Overwhelmed by My Boss to Fall in Love" is the title of this chapter's opening soliloquy. It begins with the narrator lamenting that she is too overwhelmed by her boss's love for her to fall for her little sister's charms. She tells us that she has heard that her sister is living with a "beautiful woman" , and she is worried about what will happen to her if something happens to her. She says that she doesn't know what to do, since "there's a man and a woman . . just the two . under one roof . something ! . already been ." She tells her sister that she can't go back to school because her birthday is coming up, and that her dad wants to speak to her, but she won't be able to because her dad is not familiar with her number. The narrator tells her that if she says something stupid again, she'll send her back to her dad, but if she repeats something stupid, he's going to lecture her again. She adds that she's unsure of her dad's condition since she left, and says that he would have been angry with her if she hadn't left. She also says that her big brother has told her that she should go home, but that it's up to her sister to decide whether to do so. She admits that she wants to live with her brother again.
