The chapter opens with a soliloquy by the Governess, in which she laments the fact that she has fallen in love with her boss, who is drunk. The Governess laments that she is unable to sleep because she has been "touched" by her younger sister, who tries to make her go shopping with him and use his room to store her stuffed animals.
