The Governess apologizes to her son-in-law, saying that she was jealous that he was talking to the Governess's husband. She then drove him into a corner, forcing him to say what he wanted to say. She says that she is glad that he did not get hit a lot, because she thinks it is a relief that he does not have to worry about her. She tells him that she has to apologize now, since she is also worried that she will not be able to cook for her family if she does not go to work. She asks if she knows what he said, and he says that it was a joke, but that she cannot hear it as if it were a real joke. She decides to find him, and she tells him not to go to his house until she can talk to him.
