The Governess tells Lockwood that it would be best not to ask Lockwood to keep quiet about her love life. Lockwood tells her that he has heard it all and that she should tell him what is going on. Lockwood says that he is a teacher of all-male schools and that he knows the Governess is having an affair with a man. Lockwood tries to explain that he does not know what to say, but Lockwood tells him that he should not say anything that would cause him to lose his job. Lockwood asks Lockwood to tell him where he heard the rumor, and Lockwood says he doesn't know. Lockwood then asks Lockwood where he is and Lockwood replies that he hasn't heard anything from him, but he does know that Lockwood has met someone once before. Lockwood wonders if Lockwood would have guessed that Lockwood was in love with someone.
