This chapter opens with a flashback to the beginning of the story, when Caixin's mother was killed and Caixin was almost killed in an accidental car crash. Caixin has not heard from his father for five years, and he has been worried about him ever since. He tells Caixin that he has come to the birthday party of his wife and that he will give her the money even if Caixin refuses to give it to her father. When Caixin asks if he can talk to his sister, he says that he cannot because he feels nothing when he touches her. He says he will buy himself a house and that they can have no contact with each other. He then asks if they are allowed to play some of the music on the big screen, but Caixin says that they are not allowed to do so. He asks Caixin to explain, but she says that she did not know who her father was, and that her father wanted to kill her when she was pregnant.
