About This Chapter
It's been a long time since the two of them saw each other, and now they're back in New York City. They're hanging out at a fancy hotel, and Miss Jessel is hanging out with her cousin, Fanny. Fanny is having a rough day, and she's leaving a message for her mom, telling her to go to a museum. Fanny's not having it. She's locked up and alone, and Fanny is freaking out about it. Fanny says she'll meet up with her mom at the museum, and they'll have a little chat. Fanny tells Fanny that she doesn't deserve her job anymore, and that he's an idiot for leaving Fanny in such a bad situation. Fanny points out that Fanny has lost touch with her friends, and says that it's normal for people to grow apart. Fanny explains that Fanny was so important to her that she was a "coward with her" . Fanny admits that after Fanny and her cousins insulted Fanny, she didn't do anything about it, but that she never dared to be ashamed of her inaction. Fanny thinks that Fanny must have hated her for leaving her, because she left her alone with her parents for a few weeks after that. Fanny goes on to say that she still feels bad about the whole thing, because it always bugs her that Fanny left Fanny because of her.
