About This Chapter
In this short scene, a young woman asks a man in Paris if he can buy her a phone card. The man says he's never had to do this before, and that the card will cost 5.50 francs. The young woman tries to buy a ticket to the train station, but the man won't let her. He tells her to go back to her house and beg for help, but she refuses to listen to him. She tells him that she's from a town called Chartres and that she doesn't know how to use the phone. She asks the man if he knows his number, and the man tells her that it's a cell phone, not a pager. The girl tells the man that her name is Luisa Arambol, and she was on a bus the night before to go home. She woke up and the bus dropped her off in front of her house. She says that her money is worthless and her mother is going to kill her if she isn't home by 8pm that night. She wants the man to help her find her parents, but he says he can't, because his name is Arambol. He asks the girl if she has any family in Paris and the girl says she does, but that her aunt lives in the district where they're staying. The two of them go off to look for their parents.
