The chapter opens with a flashback to a time when the narrator was a student at the University of Missouri. The narrator complains to his friend, Kim Woo-Hyuk, that he has been kicked out of school because he refused to go to school. He has been unable to find a single friend willing to let him stay at their house for a night. He tells Kim that he is going to see his girlfriend, but that he does not have any money or credit cards. He asks Kim if he can borrow money to pay for his stay at Kim's house. Kim says that he looks like he is in trouble, but he is not. He says that Kim looks fine, but has a "weird drinking habit" . Kim asks if he is a weird person, and the narrator says that is not the case. He then asks if she is crying because she is in debt, and she says that she does not want to go back home alone. She tells him that she did not like him because he was "so bad at sex" , and that she wants her to break up with him now. She asks him to tell her all his worries and stresses, and he says that they will call it "just drinking with me" and that he would be a "good drinker" if he knew how to do it.
