About This Chapter
In this short scene, the narrator explains that he is asking for money to pay off a debt he has just seen. He says he is not asking for free money, but that he will pay back the money when he leaves the house. He explains that the man he just met was walking around in the cold and snow because he was caught in a real estate scam. The narrator says the man is too naive to understand that he has been caught in such a scam. He also says that when the man signed the contract, he said he did not need money because he had dignity. Now, he says, he is going to throw his dignity away for someone else. He asks the man if he could help him one more time. The man says he would pay him back whichever way he could. He tells the narrator that he himself is not in the best position right now. He reminds the man that if he had not shown up that day, the man would have known what could have happened to him. He then tells the man to focus on paying off his debt.
